Also Sicily DOC at the 55th edition of Vinitaly, scheduled from April 2nd to 5th, 2023!
You will find us at stand G87 inside Pavilion 2 Sicily: We will be there to present and promote the very rich Sicilian wine heritage, through tastings and in-depth discussions.
Again this year, through dedicated meetings, we will be giving ample voice to the top vine varieties, Nero d’Avola, Grillo and Lucido Catarratto.
We will be starting on Sunday April 2nd with an in-depth focus on the most famous Sicilian red vine variety, Nero d’Avola, conducted by the sommelier Filippo Bartolotta. Nero d’Avola will again be the protagonist in the following encounter, led by Luigi Salvo.
The second day, Monday April 3rd, is instead, reserved for native white vine varieties, with an encounter devoted to Grillo by Luigi Salvo and a focus on Lucido by Filippo Bartolotta.
Guests of the Sala Agorà in the Sicily Pavilion will be Antonio Rallo and Elisabetta Briguglio who, together with Pino Cuttaia (President of Le Soste di Ulisse) and Daniele Siena (marketing coordinator of Le Soste di Ulisse), will be talking about our commitment to the promotion and enhancement of the “Continent Sicily” and its excellences.
This will be followed by the forum promoted by the SOStain Foundation, together with the Consortium for the Protection of Sicily DOC Wines and Assovini Sicilia, to present the commitment of Sicilian wine growing towards sustainability and organic production, also expressed through the innovative projects launched by the Foundation. At the Forum, which will be held in Sala Respighi
led by Federico Quaranta, participants will include, among others, Stevie Kim (Managing Director Vinitaly International) and Fabio Piccoli (Editorial Director Wine Meridian), as well as important sector operators, including the Ambassadors of the Vinitaly International Academy, and the specialized press.
On the third day, Tuesday April 4th, we will be exploring the theme of sustainability, devoting to it the space it deserves through some moments of in-depth analysis.
The day will be opened by the focus group led by Luigi Salvo, devoted to the Sicily vineyard, the largest Organic vineyard in Italy. This will be followed, in the Sala Agorà of the Sicily Pavilion, by the event «IRVO – We value and certify Sicilian wines – Sicilian organic wines of recognised excellence», with the participation of Antonio Giannettino (IRVO Commissioner), Gaetano Aprile (IRVO Director), Lucio Monte (ATS manager) and Roberto Ragona (Canino srl), to round off with the tasting of Sicily DOC organic wines curated by Gianni Giardina (IRVO enologist).
To conclude the day’s work, there will be another focus group curated by Filippo Bartolotta on DOC Sicily organic wines.
The star of the last day, Wednesday April 5th, will be the identity of the Sicilian vineyard, with a look at the experience of the project “Valorization of the vine cultivation germplasm”, aimed at the conservation and enhancement of Sicilian biodiversity. The project, promoted and supported by the Consortium for the Protection of Sicily DOC Wines in partnership with the Regional Department of Agriculture of the Region of Sicily, the University of Palermo and the “F. Paulsen” Regional Centre for the Conservation of Viticultural and Agricultural Biodiversity, will be illustrated by Dario Cartabellotta (General Manager of the Regional Department of Agriculture), Vincenzo Pernice (Manager of Area II Programming of the Regional Department of Agriculture), Rosario Di Lorenzo (President of the Italian Academy of Vine and Wine), Carmelo Zavaglia (Head of the Certification of Multiplication Materials for the CREAVE vine), Luca Sammartino (Department of Agriculture, Rural Development and Mediterranean Fishing).
