The project of “Valorization of wine-growing germplasm – Safeguarding the Biodiversity of the Sicilian Vineyard,” which aims at producing Sicilian vines with certification guaranteeing sanitary integrity and varietal identity, continues. Updates regarding the ongoing project, promoted and supported by the Consortium for the Protection of Sicily DOC Wines in partnership with the Regional Department of Agriculture of the Region of Sicily, the University of Palermo and the “F. Paulsen” Regional Centre for the Conservation of Viticultural and Agricultural Biodiversity”, will be presented by Luca Sammartino, a member of the Regional Agriculture Council, at a conference open to the public on Wednesday, March 29, at 10 am in the Lecture Hall of the Faculty of Agriculture at the University of Palermo.
After the welcoming message of the director of the University Department of Agricultural Sciences, Tiziano Caruso, speakers will include the general manager of the regional department of Agriculture, Dario Cartabellotta, the president of the Consortium for the Protection of Sicily Doc Wines, Antonio Rallo, the manager of Area II Programming regional department of Agriculture, Vincenzo Pernice, the president of the Italian Academy of Vine and Wine, Rosario Di Lorenzo, the person in charge of the Certification of multiplication materials for the Crea-Ve vine, Carmelo Zavaglia, and the agronomic consultant for the project, Lorenza Scianna. Council member Sammartino will close the proceedings of the conference, followed at 12:30pm by a visit to the wine-growing biodiversity conservation centre at the “Federico Paulsen” Nursery.
